The spacious community is defined by connectedness, scenic trails, highway access and top-rated schools.
Applegate is suburban living at its best, providing a neighborhood feel, outdoor options nearby and easy access to urban conveniences. Texas Township Park and Al Sabo Preserve are connected by trails. Applegate provides ample outdoor activity right in its backyard. A community clubhouse sits in the heart of the neighborhood within a few blocks of every home and offers a common area and pool. Harding’s Friendly Market is just down the road in Woodbridge shopping district. Residents are just about a mile away from top area restaurants Bold and Fieldstone Grill, as well and plenty of renowned casual eateries, like Angelo’s, Fletcher’s Pub, Biggby Coffee and Ziingo, the new carry-out endeavor from local favorite Asian bistro Chinn Chinn.
At just under a mile away, the highway is far enough away to avoid noise, but close enough to provide access. A quick hop onto the US 131 can get residents to downtown Kalamazoo in less than 15 minutes and it’s a short jaunt down Centre Avenue to Portage Schools and Crossroads Mall.
Portage Public Schools district received “Academic State Champion” status from the Center for Michigan. Washington Post’s Best High School rankings included both Portage Central and Portage Northern High Schools. Moorsbridge Elementary, Portage Central Middle were rated 9 out of 10 and Portage Central High School was rated 10 out of 10 by education.com. The schools offer traditional courses, International Baccalaureate curricula, online learning and special education. Students also have the opportunity to take part in Education for Employment for career and technical education.
