Community of the Month: Misty Creek

Misty Creek, with oversized lots, offers a coveted blend of peaceful escape and nearby city bustle. Flanking the community are Al Sabo and Asylum Lake Preserves, natural retreats with extensive biking and walking trails through the woods and wetlands. Nearby Stadium Drive features a wide variety of options for dining with everything from local favorites to well know chain-restaurants. There are several banks, coffee shops, gas stations and everyday amenities just minutes from Misty Creek. The University Commons shopping center features a fitness center, rock n’ roll bowling alley and spa, and is located across the street from the new Costco.

Youth activity is in no short supply for residents of Misty Creek. In addition to the nearby preserves and trails, the community is around the corner from Little League baseball fields, a few miles from Kalamazoo’s biggest soccer complex, and a short drive to two movie theatres. Vibrant downtown and nightlife amenities are always a convenient option for residents. Downtown Kalamazoo is a 10-minute direct shot down Stadium Drive, and downtown Grand Rapids is less than an hour north on US 131. 

Families enjoy the benefits of sought after schools in the Kalamazoo Promise qualified district. Student who attend and graduate from schools in this district receive free tuition to any university in the state of Michigan, including many private colleges. Winchell Elementary is a K-5 Blue Ribbon award winning school with a long wait list for students who don’t live in the district. Maple Street Magnate School and Loy Norrix High School have numerous extracurricular endeavors for students of all interests, including robust athletic and musical theatre programs. The main campuses of both Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College are just a five-minute drive.
