Community of the Month: Sky King Meadows

This quaint community sits at the edge, but within the boundaries of the Kalamazoo Public Schools district, meaning residents qualify for the Kalamazoo Promise which pays college tuition for KPS students at any in-state university. Kalamazoo Public Schools are ranked 157th out of 507 districts by bridgemi.com, and is home to a well-known math and science center for high school students. Sky King’s Oshtemo Township location equates to lower taxes and a more suburban lifestyle. Residents enjoy a 10-minute straight shot to downtown Kalamazoo and are within minutes of regular conveniences including Meijer and Wal-Mart.

Two major commercial arteries sit just out of earshot, but are close enough to make everyday living simple. West Main is lined with shopping and restaurants, ranging from fine dining to casual family friendly spots. With branches of many major banks and credit unions along these routes, neighborhood banking is just a stop on the way home from work. The Maple Hill Pavilion, just over a mile away, features plenty of shopping as well as a multiplex movie theatre for family outings or a Friday date night.

The enormous Oshemo Township Park is situated behind the Oshtemo Public Library and within walking distance from Sky King Meadows. It features a baseball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, a disc golf course, outdoor grills, nature trails and a children’s playground. The Sky King Meadows community itself is edged by lush tree growth, but features big, wide-open skies across its breadth for great sun exposure. The new-build homes feature wide, spacious yards and the sidewalk-line streets create safe walking space for children.
